International Experience

Fiona lived in Shanghai, China for 10 years between the ages of 22-32 where she founded, and later sold her dance company ‘Hai Arch Dance’. The company specialized in children’s dance teaching in both community venues and schools. It partnered with international schools, nurseries, cruise ships and yoga studios and produced bi-annual shows in theaters. Alongside this venture, Fiona learnt Mandarin and worked full-time at an international school to instill her love of dance and yoga in middle and high school students.

The Back Story

Fiona is from Cheshire, UK, where she spent most of her childhood outdoors, playing on the street and drawing. She later became a boundary-pushing teenager, then a dance graduate from DeMontfort University, Leicester. During her degree, Fiona studied Alexander Technique; the study of alignment, posture and balance. In the years following her studies, she found the significance of applying this knowledge to prevent injury when running, standing for long periods of time practicing yoga and sleeping.

A Path to Yoga

During her years in Asia Fiona had several influential yoga experiences including; courses in kundalini yoga, Sri Lanka, partner pose yoga courses in Shanghai, attending regular Reiki and gong healing sessions, practicing early morning sun salutations in 1:1 sessions, Kerala, India and following YouTube videos on the top of a boat with her bestie in Halong bay, Vietnam.

All these experiences contributed to her love of yoga and built up her knowledge around the versatility and benefits which led up to her kids yoga teaching training in 2012.

The activities and exercises she learned within the course immediately struck a chord and began feeding into her dance teaching practice and later she focused her Master’s thesis on ‘The effect of mind- body exercises on students’ attitude in class and their physical exertion levels’. This study helped her to conduct short meditations with students and later discuss their feelings towards their school curriculum with meditation as a tool.

Bringing It All Home

In 2018, Fiona relocated to Austria from Shanghai. As the new PE teacher at the school, the first unit of work became yoga and she spent many hours in the nearby ‘Yoga forest’ letting nature help the students create new yoga postures and engage in fun, mindful and reflective moments.

Between the birth of her first son, in China and her second son back in Cheshire, Fiona spent many mornings in her home town of Nantwich, attending local classes at Ministry Of Yoga with Shelly and Dan and hours breathing in lavender oils to calm my mind.

Since then, Fiona has been building Music Box Meditations online; working with local and international schools producing content that can be taught all over the world in an Education context; making the benefits of kids yoga accessible to everyone.

In the coming year Fiona plans to launch the ‘Music Box Meditations, Kids Yoga Teaching Training programme’ and will continue to produce personalized online content for schools, families and communities.

Feeling strong inside and out is truly her happy place.
